There is no need of any transparent protection layer over a PVD coating

PVD coatings are very thin, usually 0.5µm only. This process involves the deposition of zirconium nitride, titanium nitride or other combinations of metallic ions in high vacuum chambers.
PVD advantages are not limited to their great variety of colours and types of finish, but also to the physical and chemical properties of the deposited film. With an hardness exceeding the double of hard chrome, PVD coatings resist to "scotch-brite", "CIF","VIM powder", steel wool and to other abrasives commonly used in the cleaning of decorative surfaces.

Zirconium Nitride (ZrN), Titanium Nitride (TiN), Titanium Carbonitride (TiCN) and Aluminum Titanium Nitride (AlTiN) provide a much higher protection than any other alternative process. These coatings are ultra hard, but they don't peel out, don't scratch nor break and they keep their beauty even under the most severe conditions of use.
